Alison’s 2nd Birthday

Alison is 2 years old! We celebrated her birthday at home with family, balloons, and Hello Kitty ice cream cake.

With all the birthday celebrations we have attended this summer, Alison has grown quite fond of the Happy Birthday song, and loved it when we sang it on her birthday.

She likes to sing songs – she sings all the time at home. During car rides, she likes to sing at the top of her lungs.

Favorite songs:

  • Happy Birthday
  • ABC
  • Twinkle Twinkle Little Star
  • Baa Baa Black Sheep
  • Humpty Dumpty
  • Baby Bumble Bee
  • What Do You See

Alison’s language skills have improved dramatically over the last 3 months. She is now speaking sentences.

Memorable quotes:

  • “Mommy’s heavy”
  • “Oh my gosh”
  • “Go get it”
  • “Tickle water”
  • “ABCD Applebee!”
  • “My belly button inside owl”
  • “Daddy bao bao oatmeal”

Favorite toys:

  • scooter
  • diapers – she pretends to change her 2D giraffe toy’s diaper
  • straws
  • legos and blocks
  • bubbles
  • stickers
  • doggie stuffed animals – she loves to play pretend with them

  • crayons and markers – coloring is the first thing she wants to do in the morning

  • knows all the names of her friends in class – the teachers noticed this when during singalongs in class, Alison stands up and interrupts the song by pointing at and naming each of her classmate
  • loves being a troll and bossing us around
  • can throw a ball
  • can count to twelve… frequently skips 6 and 8
  • has trouble pronouncing “flag” and “fork” – it sounds more like another four-letter word that begins in “f” and ends in “k”. Of course she is not aware of this, and will shout “flag” loudly in the car or in public whenever she sees one.

Katelyn at 3 months

At 3 months, Katelyn sleeps well through the night. She wakes up once for diaper change and feeding, and she goes immediately back to sleep (YES!). She is, however, picky about where she sleeps – she does not like to sleep in our bed at night, and prefers her crib. She used to like sleeping in her swing during the daytime, but now she prefers sleeping on the floor. In contrast, Alison loved to sleep in our bed all the time, and did not like her crib.

Katelyn’s hair is getting longer, and it is starting to tickle Jon’s neck and ears when he holds her.

Katelyn met her great grandparents recently.

Other milestones:

  • can hold her head up steadily during tummy time
  • no longer angry all the time – she coos and smiles at us mostly
  • has a strong grip – she likes to grab my hair and not let go
  • stares at her fists
  • “talks” to herself in the mirror

  • does not like feeding from the bottle
  • spits up

Alison has been an amazing big sister. She loves to be around Katelyn, and is very protective of her when other kids are around. She helps with diaper changes, cheers up Katelyn when she cries by showing off her toys, “helps” push Katelyn’s stroller, and is generally very affectionate towards “mei mei”.

I look forward to the day they can play and laugh together… and even share…

Two Kids Under Two

It is a difficult balance…

  • Tending to a newborn’s needs
  • Dealing with the toddler tantrums
  • Making sure both kids feel loved and not neglected

Sometimes it is utter chaos. Other times it is moments of pure joy.

I look forward to the day the kids play and laugh together… and maybe, even perhaps share.
